Contests have always been particularly fun and productive times on the SCP wiki, so I think it would be cool to have one ourselves. The idea's been brought up in the Discord a few times with pretty good reception, so I figured I'd get the ball rolling formally.
As far as I can tell, these are the things we should sort out:
Hosting: I can be the master of ceremonies, unless someone else wants to. I already have plenty of articles on the site, so I don't mind sitting a contest out.
Prize: Most SCP contests have had some element of publicity (i.e. a front page feature) as their main 'prize', but that doesn't seem particularly appealing when we're talking like 20-30 pageviews, maybe. A better option would be the SCP-C1000 slot, since that's at least unique. On the flip side, that would restrict contest entries to SCPs, so there could be alternative options.
Theme: This is where community input would be really useful. On the SCP wiki, contests often have premises as simple as 1-2 words ("Horror", "D-Class", and so on), which could work here. I know the Wanderer's Library has done contests where you can select titles from a number of pre-made phrases, which also sounds cool. More specific requirements for the structure/premise/contents are also up for consideration. If you have any ideas, be sure to post them here!
Structure: Probably the safest bet would be for people to get one entry apiece, since that would make it the easiest for most people to participate. A team/partner contest would favor members who have pre-existing connections to other members, while requiring multiple works would put it out of reach for people who only have the time/ability to write one article. Still, if people are interested in something more intensive, we can do that.
Voting: Just using page votes to determine the winner should be fine, right? I don't know how we would handle a tie, though.
Time: A month for posting + a week for voting feels about right. As for when the contest starts, maybe once we get a few more members? Or we could do it sooner, if people want to.
